What follows is what each price actually buys, what legitimately moves it, and how to spot the tricks that gave this industry its reputation in the first place.
Price by Service
Interior Detailing starts at $150 for a sedan. This covers a full vacuum, wipe-down of every hard surface, leather or fabric conditioning, and interior glass — the deep-clean version of what most people picture when they think "detail my car."
Exterior Detailing also starts at $150. A hand wash of every panel, wheel cleaning, decontamination, and tire dressing — the shop-quality alternative to an automatic tunnel wash, which uses spinning brushes that install swirl marks rather than remove them.
Full Detail starts at $225 and is the most-booked package for a reason: interior and exterior together, in one visit, at a lower combined price than booking both separately.
Deep Clean is priced based on your vehicle’s condition rather than a flat starting number — carpet and seat shampoo extraction plus steam sanitization go well beyond a standard interior detail, and the right price depends on how much restoration the cabin actually needs. Ask for a quote and you’ll get an honest number before anyone touches the car.
Paint Correction starts at $499. This is machine polishing that physically removes swirl marks, light scratches, and oxidation from the clear coat rather than masking them — the price reflects the hours of careful machine work involved, not a markup.
Ceramic Coating starts at $899, which includes the one-step paint correction and full decontamination the coating requires as prep. A ceramic coating that skips this step is being applied over defects it will lock in permanently, which is exactly how a cheap "ceramic coating" ends up looking worse than the wax it replaced.
Engine Bay Detailing starts at $150 — a careful degrease and dress that leaves the bay clean and presentable without spraying water at anything electrical.
What Actually Changes the Price
Vehicle size is the biggest factor. A three-row SUV or a full-size truck has more surface area and interior volume than a sedan, so expect $25-$75 more for the same service — that adjustment is disclosed up front, not sprung on you at the door.
Condition matters for interior-heavy services. Heavy pet hair, deep-set stains, or biohazard situations take real extra time and materials, and a legitimate detailer tells you that cost before starting, not after the job is half done and you’re not in a position to say no.
Add-ons are genuinely optional. Wheel coatings, glass coatings, scratch touch-up, and similar extras are priced separately and only added if you want them — a base price shouldn’t quietly assume you’re buying the upsell.
What should never change the price: the weather, how "dirty" your car turns out to be on a service that’s already priced for a deep clean, or a vague "market rate" excuse. If a number moves for a reason that wasn’t disclosed before the detailer arrived, that’s the bait-and-switch pattern, not a legitimate adjustment.
Pricing Red Flags to Watch For
A phone quote that doubles in the driveway over "unexpected dirtiness" is the single most common complaint about mobile detailers in DFW. A real quote is calculated from your vehicle size and the service you choose before anyone shows up, and it should hold.
Deposits collected through a Facebook group or a profile with no verifiable local address are a known scam pattern — $25-$50 taken up front, then the number gets blocked. Book through a real business website or a phone number you can call back, not a DM.
Hidden "surcharges" added after the job is done — travel fees, oversized-vehicle fees, gas surcharges — should be part of the original quote, not an invoice-time surprise. If it wasn't in the quote, it doesn't belong on the invoice.
